The Friends of Sherwood Island State Park in Westport will have two bird-loving guest speakers at the 15th annual meeting on Thursday, June 6, at 7 in the Nature Center off the park’s East Beach. The public is welcome.

Phil Donahue, media personality and lover of Purple Martins (see his website gazebophil.com) will talk about his extensive Purple Martin bird colony not far from the park.

Milan Bull, director of science and conservation for the Connecticut Audabon Society, will talk about serious concerns regarding the decline of Purple Martins and 16 other species of birds native to Connecticut.

Their talks will be preceded by the Friends annual general meeting, with a State of the Park update, a financial report and the election of the board of directors. Light refreshments will be served.

For free entry to the park, those attending should tell the gate house staff that they are attending the Nature Center event. For more information, visit friendsofsherwoodisland.org.
