“It’s never happened at The Palace Theater before. In fact, it’s never happened before anywhere that I know of!”
Darien resident Lynn DiMenna is talking about “Perfect Pairs at The Palace.” She is the producer of a Broadway, cabaret and jazz series, which teams up unexpected pairs of performers: a musical theater singer and comedian, Christine Pedi, with Broadway star Johnny Rodgers; Hilary Kole, vocal stylist, with jazz pianist Freddy Cole; Marilyn Maye, a cabaret legend, and Houston Person, tenor saxophonist.
Lynn DiMenna, who is a cabaret singer herself, says that being in the music/entertainment world is the only way she could have brought these performers together. “They’re the very best and I’m fulfilling a dream — to bring the best of New York talent to Fairfield County.”
Ms. DiMenna is a member of the board of directors of the Stamford Center of the Arts at The Palace Theater. As gala chairman, she has produced many successful theatrical events. But this one is very special, she says. “You know, when people hear ‘cabaret’ they usually think of the movie or the stage show. But the genre of cabaret has a much deeper meaning. It’s a particularly intimate style of singing and vocalists interpret it in their own personal way. Marilyn Maye, for instance, is a cabaret legend. Pairing her with tenor saxophonist Houston Person mixes the very best of Broadway, cabaret and jazz.
“ Cabaret tells a story, the lyrics are essential to the mood. In jazz, lyrics, when there are any, are usually not the main focus. Paired together, the way we’ve done it, creates a unique sound and mood that is an evocative, emotional experience for the audience. “
The concert ambiance will complement the spirit of “Perfect Pairs.” In addition to some cabaret-style tables, the seats for the audience will be on risers, bringing them closer to the performers, adding to the intimacy of the music.
“Everyone has chosen their own material, and for the performers, it will be just as exciting as it will be for the audience,” Ms.DiMenna says. “It’s totally different than being on a conventional stage.”
The next three concerts of the “Perfect Pairs at the Palace” series are:

Wednesday, Nov. 13, 8 p.m. Hilary Kole and Freddy Cole.
Wednesday, Jan. 22, 8 p.m. Marilyn Maye and Houston Person
Tickets are $65 and $50 for the series. Single tickets are also available.
